Ayanfe emerged as part of an improvised collaborative recording session (aka Street Studio) at ArtsXchange, a community arts center in Atlanta. Engineered by OneBeat Co-Founder Jeremy Thal, the development of this track began with a series of drum parts played by Ayanfe Kemit, who happened to be turning 13 on that very day. Once the foundational beat was established, several other community members and OneBeat fellows added contributions on melodica, drumset, and bass. The track was rounded out by a call-and-response led by one of Ayanfe’s friends, a verse from North Carolina-based OneBeat Fellow Demeanor and a voice-over by Ayanfe’s older sister Akosua Squarrell-Revell.
