Fog and Trees is a piece of music developed by a group of five OneBeat fellows to accompany a short film by South African photographer and filmmaker Alexia Webster. Led by Chinese synth-builder and electronic sound artist Meng Qi, this track follows the contours of the video as it depicts natural phenomena, with a focus on the bumbling gases and swirling mists of Yellowstone National Park. As Meng Qi put it: “In Alexia's video, we have motions and textures of nature, filling eyes and minds at an accelerating pace. It starts sparse and still, and gets dense and ever-changing, as a watcher's sense is overwhelmed, the images in mind would become blurry, finally unified in a wash of white noise.” Meng Qi is accompanied in this piece by guitarist Ivy Alexander (Kenya), vocalist/producer Sao Yantó (Brazil), oudist/vocalist Sarra Douik (Tunisia), and cellist/violist/vocalist free feral (New Orleans).
